Science & Mathematics

Study the created order with rigor and reverence — mathematics, physics, and the health and environmental sciences.

Program overview

The study of a God-made world

This program is for the student captivated by how the world works — the logic of a proof, the story a dataset tells, the wonder of the human body, the balance of an ecosystem. Whether you’re preparing for a health profession, laying groundwork for further study, or simply following a deep curiosity, your mentor will help you build a plan that moves from strong foundations into the areas that fascinate you most.

These are practical, entry-level degrees you can complete online. Lab-based courses use interactive virtual labs and guided at-home components, so you can do real, rigorous science from where you are — no need to relocate. And through it all, we reflect on what it means to study the works of a wise and generous Creator.

What you’ll explore

  • Mathematics — calculus, linear algebra, and applied mathematics
  • Physics — mechanics, energy, and modern physics (with virtual labs)
  • Statistics, mathematical modeling, and reasoning with data
  • The health and life sciences, from anatomy to ecology
  • Environmental science, stewardship, and a Christian view of creation

Sample courses & study modules

Your plan is assembled from modules like these — chosen and sequenced with your mentor:

  • Calculus I, II & III
  • Linear Algebra
  • Differential Equations
  • Mathematical Modeling
  • Probability & Statistics
  • General Physics I & II (with virtual lab)
  • Modern Physics
  • General Biology & Chemistry (with virtual labs)
  • Environmental Science
  • Science, Faith & Creation
“Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.” — Psalm 111:2

Undergraduate research

Here, science isn’t just something you read about — it’s something you do. Every student is encouraged to take on a mentored research project, and your studies build toward a capstone in your area of interest. Motivated undergraduates can even apply for a student research grant from the Day Lily Research Fund and present their work at our annual online research symposium — hands-on experience that strengthens graduate-school applications and, more importantly, forms you as a careful, curious scholar.

Degrees offered in this area

  • B.S. in Mathematics
  • B.S. in Applied Mathematics
  • B.S. in Physics
  • B.S. in Health Sciences
  • B.S. in Environmental Studies

Advanced degrees — an M.S. in Mathematics and a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) — are in development for future terms.

Who it’s for

Future nurses and health professionals building pre-health foundations, educators, aspiring researchers, and lifelong learners who want to understand the natural world deeply and faithfully. Students drawn to research will also find a home with our Research Fund.

Where it can lead

Graduates use these degrees to prepare for further study or a health profession, to teach, and to live with a deeper, better-grounded understanding of God’s world. Hands-on, lab-intensive science tracks are among the areas we’re actively growing.
